Things Lois Is Digging
January 2005
Movie: The
Motorcycle Diaries
You have the T-shirt, now see the movie. Seriously this is most
beautiful movie of 2004, so wonderful I saw it twice in the theater.
You don’t have to subscribe to the cult of Ché –
which I do not – to appreciate this sublime film of friendship
and discovery.
DVD: Anchorman
By the beard of Zeus, this movie was frigging hilarious! I can see
that it’s a love-it-or-hate it kind of thing. Yes, it was
totally stupid, but for some inexplicable reason I thought it was
a scream. It didn’t hurt that it had an animated love scene
set to a Tom Jones song.
Television Show:
Lost
I’m not exactly cracking any exclusive news with this one.
This a show with something rare on TV: genuine surprises. Plus,
Naveen Andrews (Sayid, aka “Iraqi McGuyver”) is doing
his best to convince me he needs to come into the Corral.
Pulp Culture Items:
Shag
The hippest artist around. Josh Agle has wonderfully twisted kitsch
art that happens to sell for exorbitant amounts of money. Be sure
to check out the titles of his pieces, it’s often the best
part. This one is called ‘The Mini’.
Website:
The Official Joaquim de Almeida
Fan Site
A couple months back I started a Yahoo
Group for Joaquim de Almeida. This led to my becoming
involved with his fan site. Long story short, the site is now official
(Joaquim gave the okay) and I am second in command over there. I
may be a dork, but I’ll wear it proudly.
Book: The
Motorcycle Diaries : A Latin American Journey by Ernesto
Ché Guevera
The movie was based on this journal, as well as that of Alberto
Granado (Ché's traveling companion). Again, no matter your
opinion of the revolutionary, this is a lyrical travel journal written
by an amazing young man.
Album: Tom
Jones and Jools Holland
Tom’s latest album is one of his best. It is a strong R&B
offering, packed with 19 great songs. Plus, Tom finally found the
song that defines him perfectly: ‘200 Lbs. Of Heavenly Joy’.
Amen.
