Robert Palmer
In 1988 his was my first concert. I loved
to look again and again at the glossy pictures of that tour program.
Oh, how I wish I had hung onto that item. Right now I also wish
I still had the Heavy Nova album – the second CD I ever bought
- to pop in and listen to my favorite version of ‘It Could
Happen to You’.
There hasn’t been much time around
these parts to submit retroactive write-ups about flames of my youth.
But, Robert Palmer was one of the original Boyfriends. I was only
13, so it was pretty innocent. He was just so suave, and far be
it from me to crush on someone normal for a teenage girl growing
up in the 80’s.
When I heard that he died suddenly at
the age of 54 (on Friday 9-26-03), I felt truly sad...and not just
a little strange that a former crush had passed away. As clichéd
as it seems, he was really a classy cat, someone unique and genuinely
talented. In these days of incessant playing of 80’s music
on nearly every station on the radio dial, his music was still fresh
and listenable. I mean, who doesn’t love to crank up ‘I
Didn’t Mean to Turn You On’?
There isn’t much to write that hasn’t
been written in the news reports. I will just direct you to his
official site
for more info to get yourself up to speed on his music and career.
You’ll be missed, Mr. Palmer.
